We are looking to appoint a Senior SEN Officer for the Preparing for Adulthood (PFA) Team on an interim basis with a London-based Local Authority. The purpose of the role is to support and coordinate casework, ensuring statutory compliance and the effective provision of services for young people transitioning into adulthood.

You will play a key role in liaising with families, professionals, and educational institutions to assess needs, amend EHCPs, and ensure that children and young people receive appropriate support in line with panel decisions. Additionally, you will provide strategic support to the Team Manager and oversee a team of case officers.

Job Role for Senior SEN Officer:

  • Support and coordinate casework, attending Annual Reviews (if applicable) and school meetings for children and young people where concerns or potential school breakdowns arise.
  • Liaise with other professionals to assess children’s needs and ensure pupils with SEND receive appropriate placement and support.
  • Amend Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs) in accordance with panel decisions.
  • Lead a team of case officers, ensuring timeliness and quality of outcomes in assessments and reviews.
  • Promote and safeguard the welfare of children accessing services or looked after by the Local Authority.
  • Provide strategic support to the Team Manager, ensuring alignment with the authority’s needs.

Essential Skills & Experience:

  • PfA / Post-16 Experience – prior experience in a PfA / Post-16 team is required.
  • Ability to work in the office at least 1 – 2 days per week.
  • A strong Senior Officer who requires minimal supervision.
  • Proven experience as a Senior SEND Officer within a local authority setting
