Baltimore’s story started with Charmaine Vincent, our owner & CEO, setting up and operating her brand within a wider group. The objective was to give back to the community and fundamentally make a difference. With our initial focus being to supply both senior and niche interims into the Public Sector, the Health and Social Care sectors proved to set the pace in terms of market demand.
Humble beginning with only 4 members of staff.
Baltimore exceeded all expectations and achieved an impressive £3.6m turnover after only 2 years in business. We were building strong relationships within both the NHS and Local Government with a strong emphasis on vulnerable subject areas and providing the very best talent in the market.
Our solid reputation meant we were soon attracting the very best consultants to work for us, with our expert staff proudly, boasting an average of 8 years recruitment experience. This enabled us to offer a more consultative approach to our candidates and clients.
With Health Care and Social Care comfortably delivering against our client expectations, it was time for us to enhance our offering within the Education sector, with key hires being made to support this.
We continued to go from strength to strength and enjoyed yet another record-breaking year, achieving a huge 100% growth in turnover.
We invest the time to really understand our clients and candidate’s needs. We start achieving more success in other emerging sectors such as housing and property, coupled with continued growth across the board.
It’s no surprise we find ourselves as finalists for “Best Public and Third Sector Recruitment Agency” at the prestigious Recruiter Awards.
We continued to invest in our people and their development with all staff being certified in their specialist markets reaffirming our already proven status of genuine experts to the sector. We continued to build long lasting relationships with over 60% of Local Authorities across the UK and achieved a record breaking £9.2m turnover. Our permanent division celebrated an impressive 180% growth as we continued to support our clients and candidates through different staffing routes during changes to the IR35 legislation.
Our hard work was paying off as we were recognised as a finalist in the category of “Employer of the Year” at the Business Leader awards – Such an accolade.
Baltimore spread their wings as a standalone company with Charmaine Vincent as owner and CEO. Our greatest achievement was retaining 95% of our staff through our admired coaching culture, ensuring that we put our people first. This in turn, saw us shortlisted for “Best Public & Third Sector Recruitment Agency. Our great leader, Charmaine was shortlisted for “Most Inspiring Recruitment Agency Leader” at the Recruiter Investing in Talent Awards, “Most Influential Businesswoman of the Year” at the National Businesswomen Awards and “Entrepreneur of the Year” at the Business Leader Awards. What a year!
Settling into our new state-of the-art offices, Charmaine implemented multiple new processes and improved employee benefits in order to put her staff and their well-being at the core of everything. We continued to support our candidates and clients across all of our specialist sectors and our efforts and internal changes would be the springboard to us winning “Best Recruitment Company to Work for” at the Recruiter Investing in Talent Awards in London as a standalone company, an accolade in its own right. Our CEO, Charmaine was also named “National SME Director of the Year” at the prestigious Institute of Director Awards and “Businesswoman of the year” at the National Businesswomen Awards. Incredible!
With projected growth of 20% on both turnover and GP, we have proven that the business continues to run with passion and stability. 2020 was the year of kindness and giving back. Baltimore raised over £23,000 for Cancer research and continuously posted social media campaigns to spread positivity for their staff and their network. Our CEO, Charmaine launched an emotional intelligence/ positive intelligence programme to support her staff’s mental fitness during these challenging times. Proudly we were named “Best Recruitment Company to Work for” at the Recruiter Investing in Talent Awards for the second year running and Charmaine, our CEO won “Entrepreneur of the year” at the business leader awards. Despite adversity and challenges, we continue to go from strength to strength through putting people first.
It is out with the old and in with the new; a new brand, new processes, and a new CRM software, ensuring that we are the best version of ourselves. We grow our partnerships, with a 100 mile walk and a skydive bringing our fundraising total over £32,000 for Cancer Research UK, securing us the “Corporate Fundraising Team of the Year” title at the CRUK Flame of Hope Awards. Community involvement is so important to us; our intention is clear – we make a difference to people’s lives within our community, and we do this through giving back and supporting those who need it. We partner up with Wick Primary School, helping them with several initiatives. From providing books around equality, diversity, and inclusion, to building a cabin in the grounds to act as a safe space for their vulnerable children; there really is no stopping us! Charmaine is crowned “Business Person of the Year” and “Lockdown Leader” at the 2021 SME National Business Awards, and “Business Owner of the Year” at the National Business Women’s Awards.
We continue to go above and beyond for our employees as we celebrate another record year of growth, introducing a 4-day working week and a new EAP system to add an extra layer of support. We are placed in the top 20 recruitment businesses in the UK by Recruiter Hot 100 and win the People Services award at the Bristol Life Awards, with our Director of People being crowned “Most Inspiring Team Leader” at the Recruiter Investing in Talent Awards.
As a business, we surpass the £40,000 fundraising total for Cancer Research UK. We introduce multiple community partnerships, add another 5 business and industry awards to our belt and achieve growth across the board. We outgrow our office space in Prince Street and return to where it all began, taking up new residence in The Penthouse in Castlemead.
