School Accountant / Business Manager
£250 – £300 per day
Inside IR35
6 month initial contract (subject to schools’ continuation in purchasing services)
London
Hybrid – working from schools and home

This busy local authority is seeking an interim School Accountant / Business Manager to support schools with finance-only responsibilities as part of its increasing service provisions.

Your Role as a School Accountant / Business Manager:-

• Provide transactional support, including payments, month-end reconciliation, and VAT submissions.
• Deliver strategic analysis of budgets and spending, with reporting to Governing Bodies or Headteachers.
• Support schools in developing Deficit Recovery Plans.
• Manage and implement new finance systems, offering training as required.

Your Previous Experience as a School Accountant / Business Manager:-

• Strong understanding of Schools Funding and the ability to engage Heads and Governors with quality data for decision-making.
• Expertise in at least one finance system, e.g., ACCESS, RM, or Sims/FMS.
• Proficiency in IT, particularly Excel, for data collation and analysis.
• Ability to work independently while maintaining communication with senior management.
• Attention to detail, clarity in communication (written and oral), and professionalism in difficult situations.
• Awareness of national policy affecting school funding.
• Capability to engage stakeholders persuasively and manage priorities under pressure.
