If you’re looking to accelerate your career within local authority planning, this is the kind of opportunity that doesn’t come around often. This contract places you right at the heart of strategic spatial planning, working closely with senior officers to shape policy that genuinely influences growth, place‑making and long‑term development outcomes. As a Planning Policy Officer, you will play a visible and valued role supporting the delivery of key policy documents, evidence base work and consultation activity, giving you exposure that will significantly strengthen your profile.
This role offers immediate impact, varied workstreams and the chance to build hands‑on experience across Local Plan preparation and wider planning policy functions. With start dates moving quickly and interviews already being scheduled, this is a role where early applications will stand out.
Your role as Planning Senior Planning Officer:
•Supporting the preparation of Local Plan documents, SPDs and policy updates
•Undertaking research, data analysis and evidence base reviews
•Contributing to monitoring and reporting, including policy datasets
•Providing planning policy input on development proposals
•Supporting public consultation and stakeholder engagement activity
Your previous experience as Senior Planning Officer:
•A degree in Town Planning or a related discipline
•A solid understanding of the UK planning system and policy framework
•Strong written, analytical and organisational skills
•The ability to work collaboratively within multi‑disciplinary teams
•Exposure to local authority or planning environments (desirable, not essential)
This contract is particularly well suited if you’re early in your planning career and want real responsibility rather than observation. You’ll be trusted with meaningful tasks, supported by experienced colleagues and given the chance to develop practical skills that employers value highly. The work is varied, fast‑paced and ideal if you’re keen to build credibility within planning policy.
