Having worked in exclusive partnership with Cornwall Council last year to appoint an exceptional Head of Service for their Children and Family Services in West Cornwall, an area known for its beauty and opportunity, we are extremely proud to have been able to make an incredible difference to the community.
The Assignment
Cornwall Council required an outstanding candidate to fulfil a critical and demanding Head of Service role in the far West of Cornwall.
Cornwall holds a proven track record for innovation and delivering exceptional outcomes for children and families. Cornwall have been consistently recognised by Ofsted for their commitment to relationship-based practice and early intervention including their nationally leading Family Hubs and Start for Life initiatives. As such, they were seeking a passionate leader who would improve experiences and outcomes for Cornwall’s children and families in an empowering working environment where professional expertise can flourish.
Cornwall are deeply committed to relationship-based practice and Early Help, ensuring early intervention and access to the right support before issues escalate. Cornwall has a wide range of innovative multidisciplinary teams and team around the child initiatives to support the most complex children and families who are at most risk. Cornwall is proud to consistently achieve some of the best experiences and outcomes for Care Leavers in the country.
There were additional challenges finding the right person, due to the unique challenges of Cornwall’s geography.
The Impact

The Process
Our Children’s Services specialist drew upon their extensive network and to identify potential candidates, providing them with fact based information about the client’s requirements. They were able to do so as a result of their strong understanding of not only the skillset required, but also the leadership style and culture at Cornwall Council.
The Support
The nature of this placement was particularly complex, as the most impressive candidate for the role would need to relocate from New Zealand.
Our Consultant was able to maintain continual communication, adapting their work schedule to accomodate time zone differences, working above and beyond
to support them in navigating challenges around flights and interviews. Our Consultant was confident in their candidate’s ability and fit for the role, and this helped to reassure all parties and determine the success appointment of the Head of Service role.
