An excellent opportunity has arisen for a Senior SEND Officer within a Local Authority to assist the Education Department for an initial period of 3 months

 
As the Senior SEND Officer, you will lead a skilled team of SEND professionals to deliver high-quality support to children and young people with special educational needs, ensuring they achieve their full potential. You will manage the day-to-day operations of the SEND team, coordinate with schools, families, and other agencies, and drive the development of inclusive education practices across the authority.
 
Essential Skills & Abilities 

  • Knowledge and understanding of the legislation relating to Special Educational Needs and Disabilities.
  • Knowledge and understanding of the Education system from 0 – 25 years.
  • Knowledge and understanding of recent developments in the field of SEN and Disabilities, and the education landscape and context.
  • Practical experience in a relevant field to include working with parents, families and education providers

 
Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and manage the SEND team, ensuring high performance, continuous improvement, and a person-centred approach.
  • Oversee the Education, Health and Care (EHC) needs assessment process, ensuring compliance with statutory requirements and timescales.
  • Develop strong relationships with schools, educational settings, families, and external agencies to ensure a collaborative and effective approach to SEND support.
  • Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of SEND services, ensuring that children and young people’s needs are met, and outcomes are improved.
  • Stay informed about national and local policies and initiatives in SEND, and ensure the service remains compliant with legal requirements, including the SEND Code of Practice.
  • Lead on key projects and service development initiatives to improve SEND provision across the authority.
