This is a fantastic opportunity for a professional who is dedicated to supporting children and young people with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) and is looking to make a significant impact within a busy and dynamic Education Department.

As part of this role, you will have the opportunity to work on highly complex cases and play a key role in the delivery of SEND services within a local authority. The position offers the chance to bring your expertise to an important area of work, supporting both children and families in need of crucial educational support.
This is a hybrid role with the expectation of 3 days on site.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Act as a dedicated Senior SEND Officer, handling highly complex cases and providing expert advice and support to families, education providers, and other stakeholders.
  • Manage and monitor the complaints process to ensure timely resolutions, demonstrating a commitment to continuous improvement.
  • Collaborate with the Education Department and external providers to ensure appropriate support and interventions for children and young people with SEND.
  • Work directly with parents, families, and education providers to ensure all cases are managed effectively and in line with relevant SEND legislation.
  • Be the go-to professional within the team for all complex cases, leveraging your expertise and knowledge of SEND practices and legislation.

Essential Skills:

  • A deep knowledge and understanding of the SEND legislative framework, including the SEND Code of Practice and relevant regulations.
  • Extensive understanding of the education system from 0-25 years, including statutory obligations and best practices related to SEND.
  • In-depth knowledge of recent developments in the field of SEND, including changes to policy, services, and education practices.
  • Demonstrated practical experience working with children, young people, and families to address SEND-related issues, including experience with Educational, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs).
  • Knowledge and hands-on experience working with EOTAS (Education Other Than At School) and other alternative education provisions.
  • Strong communication and problem-solving skills to manage complex situations effectively, with a focus on delivering excellent service and outcomes.

Job Requirements:

  • Previous experience in a SEND role, with a focus on complex cases, is essential.
  • While there will be no line management responsibilities in this role, you must demonstrate the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • This role does not require involvement in new assessments or reviews, allowing you to focus solely on managing complex cases and the complaints process.
  • You will be expected to manage a high caseload and provide support and guidance to parents, families, and education providers, ensuring that all individuals involved are kept informed and up to date.
