Location: Wales – Flexible (Remote working with school visits as needed)
Rate: £500/day
Contract Length: 5 months initially
Start Date: ASAP (IT equipment provided)
 
Reporting to: Senior School Improvement Manager
 
About the Role
We are seeking an experienced and dedicated School Improvement Advisor to support a Local Authority in Wales with their improvement journey of three special schools, including a behavioural school and a school for profound learning difficulties. This is a key role in driving improved educational outcomes and supporting headteachers in achieving high standards in Additional Learning Needs (ALN) and Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) settings.
 
Key Responsibilities:

• Provide expert advice and support to headteachers in three special schools, covering all areas of school improvement.
• Develop and implement strategies to enhance educational outcomes for students with complex needs.
• Offer tailored support based on the unique challenges of ALN and SEND settings.
• Attend team meetings and collaborate with the wider education team to share best practices and drive improvement.
   

Essential Skills and Experience:

• Strong understanding of special school environments, including ALN and profound learning difficulties.
• Experience in school improvement, ideally within a special school setting.
• Ability to adapt to the specific needs of behavioural and SEND schools.
• Understanding of the Welsh education system is beneficial – or willingness to learn with support provided.
   

Desirable:

• Experience as a headteacher or senior leader in a special school.
• Experience working within a local authority is not essential – training provided.
• Proven track record of supporting school improvement and raising standards.
