Programme Manager – Drug & Alcohol Services
3-month interim contract (with potential to extend)
South East Local Authority (Hybrid working)
£400-450 per day

Reporting to the senior leadership within the Public Health & Communities Directorate, you will be responsible for leading the strategic delivery of drug and alcohol treatment services. This includes oversight of the drug and alcohol community treatment contract and implementation of the improvement plan. Your work will drive forward the national 10-year Drug Strategy through the Combatting Drugs Partnership, with a strong emphasis on evidence-based interventions and improving outcomes for those impacted by alcohol dependency.
 
This is a senior interim position suited to an experienced public health or commissioning professional with a track record of managing complex programmes in a local authority or comparable setting.
 
Your role as the Programme Manager – Drug & Alcohol Services:

  • Oversee the delivery and performance of the drug and alcohol treatment contract and improvement plan.
  • Implement effective, evidence-based interventions for alcohol addiction.
  • Coordinate and drive strategic activity aligned with the 10-year national Drug Strategy.
  • Work in collaboration with the Combatting Drugs Partnership and wider system stakeholders.
  • Ensure delivery meets both national standards and local strategic priorities.
  • Operate as a visible system leader and change agent within the Public Health and Communities directorate.

 
Your previous experience as a Programme Manager – Drug & Alcohol Services:

  • Significant experience in leading public health, drug & alcohol or commissioning programmes in a complex, multi-agency setting.
  • Strong understanding of the legislative and policy frameworks around substance misuse services.
  • Demonstrable ability to manage strategic relationships and partnerships.
  • Experience of driving transformation and service improvement.
  • Strategic thinker, with the ability to work across systems and influence at senior levels.
  • Evidence of professional qualifications or equivalent senior experience in a relevant field.
