Leading and managing the statutory housing review process under Part 7, Section 202 of the Housing Act 1996 and, where required, housing allocation decisions. You will ensure that decisions made by the Housing Advice and Options Service are legally compliant, robust, and defensible.
You will currently be working for a local authority and be an experienced Homelessness Review Officer, offering excellent knowledge of current Housing legislation.  You will liaise with internal and external stakeholders, including legal representatives, advocacy groups, and partner agencies, to ensure transparency, fairness, and effective communication throughout the review process.

Your Role as Homelessness Review Officer:
 

  • Lead and manage statutory reviews, ensuring all reviews are completed within statutory timescales and in accordance with relevant legislation, case law, and best practice.
  • Ensure that all decisions are robust, defensible, and legally sound by providing expert oversight, quality assurance, and feedback to decision-makers.
  • Manage a personal caseload, including complex and high-profile reviews, ensuring detailed investigations, clear communication with applicants, and high-quality decision letters are produced.

Your previous experience as Homelessness Review Officer:

  • Empathy and sensitivity to the needs of homeless customers.
  • Considerable knowledge of housing and homelessness legislation and experience in delivering housing access and homelessness services.
  • Advanced experience in dealing with homelessness legislation as it affects landlord/tenant relationships or homelessness.
  • Advanced experience working with homeless people.
  • Advanced knowledge of Part 7 of the Housing Act 1996 and the Homelessness Act 2002.
  • Working knowledge of homelessness issues.
