Reporting into the Service Manager you will oversee the operational and strategic management of Street Cleansing and Grounds Maintenance contracts across the borough. You will ensure compliance is in line with council regulations, manage budgets, investments, and asset turnover. You will have line management responsibilities for 6 officers within the service, overseeing appraisals, 1:2:1 meetings, and risk assessments.  
 
Your Role as Grounds Maintenance and Street Cleansing Manager;

• Supervise budgets for Play Areas, Grounds Maintenance, and Street Cleansing services.
• Prepare bids, track developer funding, and provide budget updates to the finance team.
• Manage parks, open spaces, cemeteries, sports facilities, and leisure services.
• Facilitate internal meetings and oversee contract management activities.
• Handle GIS improvements, project execution, and site handovers/adoptions.
• Gather and report KPIs to senior officers and Members.
• Contribute to planning applications and collaborate on Green Infrastructure initiatives.
• Ensure the service runs efficiently while identifying opportunities for income generation.

 
Your previous experience as Grounds Maintenance and Street Cleansing Manager;

• A degree or equivalent experience (approximately 5 years) in an environmental field.
• Ongoing professional development (e.g., chartered status in Environmental Management or a similar qualification).
• Proven experience in contract management, with a solid understanding of local authority commissioning and contract procurement processes.
• Significant experience addressing operational issues and applying strategic, risk-based solutions for long-term sustainability.
