Job Title: Building Control – Public Protection Surveyor

A well respected Local Authority has a requirement for an Building Control – Public Protection Surveyor to aid in sign off for premises of mixed tenure of up to 20 off dwellings including commercial properties, based in in the Home Counties for a 3 month contract (in the first instance).  

 

 

Your duties as a Building Control – Public Protection Surveyor will include:

 

Reporting to the Head of Housing you will be carrying  out inspections of all types of Commercial to Residential Conversions (from plan and on site) and to initiate appropriate actions as a result; to ensure such premises comply with current Regulations and associated Legislation.

 

  • Liaising with multiple internal and external stakeholder experience for consultation processes
  • Pull together a number of regen projects that currently running to see them to completion
  • Liaise with departments including Planning, Building Control, Royal Berkshire Fire and Rescue Service.
  • Respond to service requests, complaints and formal notifications relating to Commercial to Residential Conversions
  • Conduct inspections leading to the production of reports for consideration by Senior Managers.
  • Assist with the investigations leading to the production of reports for the Public Protection Partnership – Joint Case Management including conducting interviews under caution, witness handling, evidence gathering and preparing for and attending court or tribunal (the ability to write detailed reports and have strong report writing skills)
  • Practical experience of going into premises and using current legislation and guidelines to make appropriate recommendations
  • Identifying solutions and providing reasons in the decision making as to the responsibility of actions required
  • Identifying if legislation can be enforced or if just have to reply on recommendations as to application
  • Dealing with a variety of complaints ranging from ventilation issues, acoustic issues to fire safety 
  • Working across a wide range of Public Protection functions

Requirements for the role of Building Control – Public Protection Surveyor include:

 

  • RICS/CABE Membership
  • Have the capacity to manage projects and scale up
  • Fire Safety Design
  • Surveying and project manage
  • Building legislation and practical knowledge of application
