SEND Tribunal Officer
Initial 3-month interim contract to start late-July 2025
North London Local Authority
£360 – £400 per day
Inside IR35 (via umbrella)
Hybrid working (1–2 days per week on site)

Reporting into the SEN Service Manager, you will take the lead on managing and preparing responses to SEND Tribunals and appeals, working closely with legal services, parents, and internal teams. You will be responsible for ensuring legal compliance, accurate documentation, and strategic case direction across all SEND Tribunal matters.
 
This is a high-paced, focused role requiring expert knowledge of SEND legislation, tribunal processes, and excellent case management skills. You’ll play a crucial part in protecting the Local Authority’s position in complex and often high-profile cases.
 
Your Role as the SEND Tribunal Officer:

  • Lead and coordinate all SEND Tribunal cases, working across EHCP and wider SEN services.
  • Prepare legal responses, witness statements, and bundles in line with statutory timelines.
  • Provide advice and guidance to SEN case officers and managers on Tribunal matters.
  • Liaise with legal representatives, health and care partners, and families.
  • Attend hearings where necessary and represent the Local Authority’s position effectively.
  • Track and monitor ongoing appeals to inform wider service planning.

 
Your Previous Experience as a SEND Tribunal Officer:

  • Extensive experience managing SEND Tribunal cases within a Local Authority setting.
  • Strong working knowledge of the Children and Families Act 2014 and SEND Code of Practice.
  • Ability to draft high-quality legal documentation and coordinate responses under pressure.
  • Excellent communication and negotiation skills when working with families and partners.
  • Strong understanding of EHCP processes, timescales, and legal frameworks.
  • Confident working autonomously in a hybrid environment (1–2 days per week on site)
