Join a dynamic London local authority team dedicated to improving educational outcomes for vulnerable children and young people. As an Education Officer within the Virtual School, you will play a vital role in supporting Looked After Children (LAC) through direct intervention, advocacy, and multi-agency collaboration. This role blends case management, educational planning, and strategic support, with a strong emphasis on safeguarding and partnership working.

Key Responsibilities:-

  • Manage a caseload of Looked After Children aged 2–18, tracking educational progress and attainment.
    • Lead and record Personal Education Plan (PEP) meetings in line with statutory guidance and local policy.
    • Contribute to Pathway Plans for Care Leavers aged 18–25 who remain in education.
    • Provide advice and guidance to schools, carers, and professionals on education-related matters.
    • Attend school admissions, exclusions, and multi-agency meetings to advocate for individual children.
    • Ensure accurate data entry and use of the eGov Solutions system to support service delivery.
    • Support service development and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives.
    • Advise on appropriate education provision prior to care placements.
    • Collaborate with stakeholders to ensure high-quality, timely completion of PEPs.
    • Promote the Council’s vision of ‘putting our residents first’ through effective engagement and advocacy.

Essential Skills & Experience:-

  • Degree-level qualification and minimum 1 year’s experience in the UK education system or Virtual School.
    • Experience working with vulnerable children, including those with SEND and/or English as an Additional Language.
    • Strong understanding of the educational needs of Looked After Children and Care Leavers.
    • Knowledge of safeguarding, child protection, and multi-agency working.
    • Ability to undertake direct work with children and young people in educational settings.
    • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Access) and confident using data management systems.
    • Excellent communication, advocacy, and stakeholder engagement skills.
    • Full driving licence desirable due to borough-wide travel requirements.

Working Arrangements:-

This is a hybrid role, combining remote administrative work with in-person visits to schools and meetings with professionals. Flexibility and autonomy are key, with support from a collaborative and experienced team.
