Service Manager – Child Protection and Family Support
Initial 3-month interim contract (with potential to extend)
North London – 3 days per week on site
£450 per day
Inside IR35 (via umbrella)

An exciting opportunity has arisen within a North London Local Authority for an experienced Service Manager to lead and manage Child Protection and Family Support services. You will play a key role in safeguarding children and supporting families through high-quality, responsive interventions that meet statutory responsibilities and deliver improved outcomes.

You will oversee a team of frontline managers and social workers, ensuring safe and effective practice in line with the borough’s vision for children’s services. You will provide inspirational leadership, embedding a culture of continuous improvement, accountability, and child-focused practice.
 
Your role as the Service Manager – Child Protection and Family Support:

  • Lead the operational delivery of child protection and family support services, ensuring high-quality and compliant social work practice.
  • Manage service performance, drive improvement, and ensure timely and effective interventions for children and families.
  • Provide leadership and support to Team Managers and frontline staff, promoting a culture of learning and reflective practice.
  • Oversee workforce development and promote staff wellbeing, resilience, and retention.
  • Work collaboratively with partners to promote joined-up safeguarding responses across the borough.
  • Ensure compliance with statutory frameworks and preparation for inspection.

 
Your experience as a Service Manager – Child Protection and Family Support:

  • Substantial experience at management level within statutory children’s social care services.
  • Strong knowledge of legislation and best practice around child protection and family support.
  • Proven track record of improving practice quality and performance in a complex local authority environment.
  • Social Work qualification and current Social Work England registration
  • Confident, collaborative leader with the ability to engage and motivate multidisciplinary teams.
  • Experience of successfully preparing services for Ofsted inspection and/or delivering against improvement plans.
