An exciting permanent opportunity for an experienced senior leader in Children’s Services to drive forward the council’s continued commitment to high quality social work following their Good Ofsted outcome.
This role will be pivotal in driving forward the Council’s commitment to embedding the positive changes and progress achieved in the last few years on their journey to Outstanding.
Instrumental in the success of this role will be a visible leader who will continue to strengthen the partner relationships but also collaborate with peers and the service to develop and move forward in the shared vision & commitments across Corporate Parenting, Partnerships and the upcoming Social Care Reforms.

About your role as Service Director Childrens Social Care and Preventative Services:
- Reporting to the Director of People and with direct reporting lines of 2 Heads of Service plus 8 service managers, you will hold operational oversight of a staff group circa 380 staff.
- Within your portfolio, you will oversee Preventative Services, Access to Resources, 0-25 Disability services, Localities services, Corporate Parenting & Fostering.
- You establish a culture where managers are able to support performance and challenge ineffectiveness, driving forward the commitment to a stable and permanent workforce.
- You will provide significant support to Elected Members including the analysis of risks and opportunities on strategic issues that affect the Council and its reputation. Prepare and present operational briefings and reports and make transparent recommendations on issues relevant to the service area, to enable Elected Members to scrutinize and make informed decisions.
- You will interpret national strategy for children and young people and manage a function of operational and front-line staff to deliver local priorities within this framework including leading on the strategic development for the Social Care Reforms and embedding the changes across the service.
- You will demonstrate strong financial and commercial acumen with significant experience in strategically managing budgets and financial expenditure with budget oversight of £53m.

Your required experience as Service Director Childrens Social Care and Preventative Services:
- Previous experience operating at Assistant Director level or above in either seconded or substantive position.
- Authoritative knowledge and technical expertise in children’s social care and the overall functional and business understanding needed to position the function across the organisation.
- Extensive knowledge of delivering against equality, diversity and inclusion objectives within relevant service areas clearly using performance measures to identify imbalances and advance equality of opportunity for all.
- Proven ability to identify, develop and sustain strategic partnerships both internally and externally. Act as an advocate for the council’s best interests.
- You will be a Qualified and registered social worker.
- Available references for most recent 2 year’s roles and Enhanced DBS will be required
