School Improvement Adviser Interim Contract
South West– Local Authority

£400 per day (Inside IR35 via umbrella)
Onsite 2–3 Days per week

We have an excellent opportunity to work with a Local Authority in the South West as a School Improvement Adviser. You will play a key role in supporting the LA’s statutory duties in relation to provision in LA‑maintained schools, working closely with headteachers, principals and leadership teams to drive high‑quality school improvement across the city. This role is prioritising childrens education within the LA’s Hospital Education Service.

Your work will contribute directly to the coordination of sector‑led and school‑to‑school support, the evaluation of school improvement strategies, and the delivery of city‑wide priorities that improve outcomes for children and young people.
Your Role as School Improvement Adviser:

  • Evaluate school improvement strategies, plans and performance data to assess impact.
  • Support Early Years transition work and promote strong practice across primary and secondary phases.
  • Contribute to LA‑wide improvement strategies, CPD and school‑to‑school support.
  • Support the Lead for School Improvement with schools causing concern or in Ofsted categories and provide advice during Ofsted preparation and post‑inspection follow‑up.
  • Maintain oversight of school performance and report on the impact of commissioned support.
  • Work with Teaching School Hubs, trusts and partners to strengthen collaborative improvement.

Your Previous Experience as a School Improvement Adviser:

  • Strong experience of delivering school improvement advice to senior leaders and associated professionals.
  • Deep understanding of evidence‑informed school improvement, Ofsted frameworks, curriculum, inclusion and data analysis.
  • Knowledge of statutory responsibilities relating to school performance, SEND, attendance and safeguarding.
  • Experience working in or closely with schools across primary and/or secondary.
  • Confident understanding of Ofsted frameworks, curriculum, SEND and data analysis.
