Reporting to the Head of Building Control, you will play a pivotal role in ensuring statutory compliance and the safe delivery of complex construction projects within the borough.
This is a high-impact role within a collaborative team that supports regeneration, housing, and corporate asset development, where you will be working across 2 Boroughs.

About the Principal Building Control Surveyor Role:

  • Lead on the assessment and approval of major, complex applications, including 2F and Class 3 schemes.
  • Provide expert advice on the Building Safety Act, Building Regulations, Fire Safety Act, and associated statutory requirements.
  • Inspect works in progress across large-scale residential, mixed-use, and heritage projects to ensure compliance.
  • Mentor and support junior surveyors, contributing to professional development within the Building Control team.
  • Liaise with developers, contractors, and design teams to resolve compliance issues proactively and collaboratively.
  • Represent the council in technical meetings and ensure all statutory functions are discharged effectively.

Your previous experience as a Principal Building Control Surveyor:

  • Demonstrable experience delivering building control services on large, complex developments.
  • Full membership/registration with RICS, CABE, CIOB, or equivalent.
  • Proven competency in handling 2F and Class 3 schemes.
  • Strong knowledge of current building regulations, fire safety legislation, and wider construction compliance standards.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to manage multiple stakeholders across high-value projects.

 
Salary is inclusive of £7500 market supplement; you will also receive a golden hello for years in service once you have passed your 6 months probation. Other benefits include, Local Authority pension, employers’ contribution and partnership with loyalty scheme with money off selected retailers.
