Job Title: Principal Building Control Surveyor
Location: Local Authority in the Midlands (hybrid working)
Day Rate: £650 per day (Inside IR35)
Contract Length: Initial 2-3 month contract (with a view to extend)
 
Baltimore Consulting are seeking a Principal Building Control Surveyor to join a Local Authority in the Midlands on a high-impact interim basis. Reporting to the Team Manager, you will be expected to support the directorate team to deliver high quality professional Building Control service for the Council and partner authorities. 
 
Your role as the Principal Building Control Surveyor:

• Lead and manage a team including Senior and Assistant Surveyors.
• Support the operational management of Building Control services across the city.
• Act as deputy to the Team Manager, including managing dangerous structures, safety at sports grounds, and high-rise fire safety.
• Oversee performance management, service quality, and partnership delivery.
• Contribute to fee setting, marketing strategies, and service improvements.
• Represent the authority in legal matters, court hearings, and advisory panels.

 
Your previous experience as Principal Building Control Surveyor: 

• Degree or equivalent qualification in Building Surveying or a related field.
• An appropriate recognised up to date fire regulations qualification for high rise buildings.
• In-depth knowledge of health & safety and fire safety regulations.
• Experience managing high-rise buildings, sports ground safety, and dangerous structures.
• Strong leadership, communication, and analytical skills.
• Ability to translate complex legislation into practical procedures.
• Politically astute with experience liaising with elected members.
• Strong focus on performance delivery, innovation, and service transformation.
• Ability to work autonomously on complex and high-profile projects.
