Reporting to the Senior SEND Officer / Children’s Transport Manager, you will support children and young people with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND) to develop the skills and confidence required to travel independently. You will deliver travel training programmes, assess individual needs, and promote safe travel through public transport, walking, and cycling. Working closely with schools, parents, and partner organisations, you will help maximise independence and access to education and the community.
 
Your Role as Independent Travel Trainer:
• Deliver independent travel training programmes to children and young people with SEND
• Assess road safety awareness and readiness for travel training
• Ensure the safety and wellbeing of trainees during training in schools, homes, and community settings
• Work in partnership with schools, transport services, and other agencies to promote independent travel
• Support risk assessments and follow safe working procedures
• Maintain accurate records, travel plans, and progress reports
• Liaise with parents, carers, and school staff regarding training plans and progress
 
Your Previous Experience as an Independent Travel Trainer:
• Experience working with children or young people with special educational needs and/or disabilities
• Strong communication, interpersonal, and organisational skills
• Ability to work independently and manage workloads effectively
• ICT skills and experience writing reports or support plans
• Knowledge of safeguarding and health and safety procedures
• Experience delivering training or planning learning activities (desirable)
