Independent Reviewing Officer/Child Protection Chair

A new opportunity has arisen within a Local Authority in the South East for an experienced IRO/CP Chair to support for an initial 3-months. As the IRO/CP Chair, you will be expected to convene and chair Looked After Children reviews and to chair Child Protection Conferences as required by the demands of the service.
 
 
About your role as the IRO/CP Chair:

  • To convene and chair Looked After Children reviews and to chair Child Protection Conferences as required by the demands of the service.
  • Both review and monitor a child’s case on an ongoing basis.
  • Ensure ‘best practice’, rigour and outstanding care and safety planning for Children in the region.
  • Monitor, facilitate and promote strong inter-agency working, communication and multi-agency Care and Safety Planning.
  • Assure the quality of practice within the department.
  • Monitor the performance of the Local Authority’s function as a ‘corporate parent’ and identify and challenge areas of poor practice and recognise and promote best practice.

 
Your required experience as the IRO/CP Chair:
 

  • Previous experience in IRO/CP chair role with a minimum of 6 months experience in post.
  • Maintain the quality of social work practice – using relational practice.
  • Social work England active registration.
  • To comply with statutory guidance by providing independent chairing of child protection conferences and reviews of looked after children.
  • To carry out quality assurance monitoring, report findings and make recommendations about the practice improvements required.
  • To act as consultant to managers, social work staff and other agencies about policy, procedure and practice relating to Child Protection/safeguarding and Children Looked After.
