Head of Corporate Parenting
3-month initial interim contract to start ASAP

£500-£550 per day

Inside IR35 (via umbrella)
Remote/ Hybrid working 3 days on site per week

This is an exciting opportunity to lead transformational change and make a lasting impact on the lives of children and families. As a senior leader in the Children’s Services, you will drive strategic and operational excellence across children’s social care, ensuring the right support is delivered at the right time. With responsibility for a significant budget and statutory duties, you’ll work closely with partners, elected members, and families to shape innovative, child-centred services that put children first and deliver on their vision of a Child Friendly borough.

Your Role as Head of Corporate Parenting:

  • Fulfil the Council’s statutory duties for children in need, child protection, and looked-after children
  • Ensure timely, appropriate, and effective support for families in line with the Early Help Strategy (“Right Approach, Right Place, Right Time”)
  • Lead operational decision making and contribute to strategic planning to meet the Council’s corporate responsibilities for children
  • Support and enable elected members
  • Drive service transformation and improvement
  • Build and maintain strong partnerships within and outside the Council to co-design and deliver services with children and families
  • Represent the Council regionally, sharing and learning from best practices to strengthen child-centred services

Your previous experience as Head of Corporate Parenting:

  • Extensive senior leadership experience within children’s social care, with a strong track record of delivering statutory services and safeguarding responsibilities
  • Proven ability to lead large-scale service transformation and drive strategic improvements in line with corporate priorities
  • Demonstrated experience of effective partnership working across agencies, including health, education, and the voluntary sector
  • Strong financial management experience, including oversight of substantial budgets and ensuring best value through commissioning and resource allocation
  • Experience of working with elected members and contributing to corporate parenting responsibilities
