This role is focused on the strategic leadership and operational management of campaigns, marketing, channel management and internal communications within a large, politically led local authority.
Reporting at senior level, you will be responsible for ensuring the council’s communications are clear, effective, politically aware and outcomes‑focused, particularly in the run‑up to local elections.

About the Interim Head of Campaigns and Internal Communications role:-

  • Strategic Leadership: Provide senior leadership across campaigns and internal communications, setting clear direction, priorities and measurable outcomes aligned to council objectives.
  • Campaign Management: Lead the planning and delivery of high‑impact, multi‑channel campaigns that engage residents and stakeholders and support organisational priorities.
  • Internal Communications: Oversee internal communications to ensure staff are informed, engaged and supported through organisational change and key initiatives.
  • Political Awareness: Act as a trusted senior communications adviser, working closely with elected members and senior officers in a politically sensitive environment.
  • Channel Growth & Performance: Drive effective channel management, audience growth and performance monitoring to ensure communications reach and resonate with target audiences.
  • People Management: Lead and manage a communications team of up to eight people, fostering a high‑performance culture and ensuring delivery against agreed objectives.
  • Delivery Focus: Ensure all activity is outcomes‑driven, with clear deliverables achieved at pace within a fast‑moving interim environment.

Your previous experience as Head of Campaigns & Internal Communications:-

  • Public Sector Communications Leadership: Significant experience operating at Head of / senior management level within a local or central government communications environment.
  • Political Experience: Proven experience dealing with local politics, elected members and politically sensitive issues.
  • Campaign Expertise: Strong background in strategic communications, campaign management and channel development, with evidence of successful delivery.
  • Performance Driven: Highly outcomes‑focused, with the ability to set priorities, manage competing demands and deliver to tight deadlines.
  • People Management: Demonstrable experience managing and motivating teams, including performance management and professional development.
