Interim Head of Safeguarding
£500 – £650 per day (DoE), Inside IR35
3-6 month initial contract
London
Hybrid – 2-3 days on site per week
This local authority is going through a period of transition and is seeking senior strategic support to strengthen and embed high‑quality safeguarding practice across Adult Social Care. As Head of Safeguarding, you will play a pivotal role in shaping professional standards, driving safeguarding excellence, and ensuring consistently robust, person‑centred responses for adults at risk.
Your role as Head of Safeguarding:
- Provide strategic leadership, oversight and direction to the Safeguarding Team
• Drive high‑quality, timely and defensible safeguarding practice across the Directorate
• Offer expert professional advice and ensure interventions, decision‑making and risk management are robust and aligned to statutory requirements
• Promote safe, consistent and outcome‑focused safeguarding responses across all operational teams
• Lead on continuous improvement, learning cultures and high professional standards
• Build strong partnerships with Police, Health, Education, Community Safety, voluntary and independent providers
• Influence cross‑directorate practice and contribute to wider strategic safeguarding priorities
Your previous experience as Head of Safeguarding:
- Significant experience within a statutory Adult Social Care or Health setting
• Proven ability to operate at a senior level with increasing responsibility and influence
• Strong track record of partnership working across multi‑agency safeguarding arrangements
• Skilled in managing complex safeguarding activity and driving quality improvement
• Evidence of leading teams, shaping professional practice and improving service outcomes
Qualifications & Skills Required:
- Social Work qualification with Social Work England registration
• Recognised management qualification, or willingness to undertake management training
• Excellent communication, collaboration and influencing skills
• Commitment to safeguarding excellence, service quality and continuous improvement
