This is a rare opportunity to step into a genuinely influential senior leadership role, reporting directly to the Corporate Director of Finance and Resources and leading a critical, high‑profile portfolio. As Director – Property and Assets, you will have strategic and operational responsibility for a property estate valued in excess of £500m, oversight of a £200m+ capital programme, and leadership of a multidisciplinary service at the heart of the organisation.

You will set the direction for how property, assets and capital investment support housing, education, regeneration and financial resilience, while driving performance, value for money and innovation. This is a role with real autonomy, visibility and impact, ideal for a confident, politically astute leader who thrives in complex environments and wants to make a difference from day one.

Your Role as Director – Property and Assets:

  • Strategic leadership of property, assets and capital programmes, aligning delivery to corporate priorities
    • Accountability for high‑value portfolios and budgets, including FM contracts, income generation and acquisitions
    • Leading a high‑performing professional service, embedding a customer‑focused, improvement‑driven culture
    • Acting as senior client for FM services, consultants and contractors, driving performance and compliance
    • Providing corporate leadership on emergency planning, business continuity, health & safety and sustainability

You will play a key role in shaping long‑term asset strategies, maximising the use of land and buildings, and supporting major programmes such as schools, housing development and One Public Estate. You will also work collaboratively across the senior leadership team, contributing to wider organisational priorities and deputising when required.

Your previous experience as a Director – Property and Assets:

  • Senior leadership experience within complex, politically aware organisations
    • Proven delivery of large‑scale property, regeneration or capital programmes
    • Strong track record in financial control, commercial decision‑making and value for money
    • Experience leading professional property, estates or FM teams through change
    • Deep understanding of local government, governance and public‑sector finance

This role will move quickly and offers the chance to make an immediate and visible impact. If you’re ready to step into a challenging, high‑reward leadership position and bring energy, clarity and direction to a critical service, we want to hear from you.
