Are you a decisive and experienced SEND Commissioner ready to step into a high-impact role at a pivotal stage of transformation? You will join an established commissioning function with a clearly protected SEND budget, trusted to drive critical workstreams from day one. This is your opportunity to make lasting improvements for children and young people, working closely with education and health partners while shaping services through to 2029.
Your Role as SEND Commissioner:
• Lead commissioning of therapies including speech & language and occupational therapy in partnership with health
• Drive post-16 commissioning across the independent sector with a focus on outcomes
• Oversee EOTAS provision, ensuring quality, compliance and value for money
• Deliver key elements of the SEND transformation programme, supporting statutory responsibilities
• Operate in an autonomous, outcomes-focused way within a fast-paced commissioning environment
You will take ownership of priority workstreams, progressing activity at pace and making confident, informed decisions without the need for close supervision.
Your previous experience as a SEND Commissioner:
• Proven track record as a SEND Commissioner within a local authority or similar setting
• Strong background in education commissioning, with exposure to health commissioning desirable
• Demonstrated ability to work independently, delivering impact without hand-holding
• Clear understanding of statutory SEND duties and commissioning constraints
• Experience managing delivery within fixed and tightly governed budgets
This role offers flexibility (3–4 days per week or full-time) alongside the opportunity to see meaningful change delivered over a multi-year programme. You will thrive if you’re pragmatic, delivery-focused, and motivated by making a tangible difference.
