Mental Health Awareness Month: Supporting Care in Bristol

May is Mental Health Awareness Month; a time to raise awareness, reduce stigma, and highlight the importance of accessible, compassionate mental health support.

Mental health conditions account for around 20% of the overall illness burden, with one in four people experiencing a mental health problem each year. While understanding the scale of the challenge matters, meaningful change comes from care that treats people as individuals – not statistics.

Why Human Mental Health Care Matters

Effective mental health support goes beyond clinical treatment. It requires empathy, active listening, and strong community connections. That’s why organisations like Bristol Mind play such a vital role.

Rooted in the local community, Bristol Mind provides practical, compassionate mental health services tailored to real people and real lives. Their deep understanding of Bristol’s communities allows them to offer support that truly makes a difference when it’s needed most.

Supporting Bristol Mind This May

Throughout Mental Health Awareness Month, we’ll be sharing useful support resources and running in house fundraising initiatives to raise vital funds for our charity partner, Bristol Mind.

As a Bristol based business, supporting local mental health services is particularly important to us. Whilst everyone’s experience of mental health is different, no one should ever have to face it alone.

Emotional Support When You Need It

If you or someone you know needs someone to talk to, Bristol Mind’s MindLine emotional support helpline is available five nights a week:
0808 808 0330

This confidential helpline offers a safe space to talk or simply be listened to.

Our Commitment to Workplace Mental Health

Mental Health Awareness Month reflects values we uphold all year round. At Baltimore Consulting, we recognise that workplace mental health and wellbeing must be proactive and responsive.

Poor mental health accounts for over half of all work related illnesses, with stress, anxiety, and depression driving long term sickness absence. That’s why we continue to invest in a comprehensive mental health and wellbeing strategy shaped by employee feedback.

Our approach includes:

  • An enhanced Employee Assistance Programme (EAP) offering free, confidential counselling
  • Multiple support options, including face to face, telephone, video, and live chat
  • A growing network of Mental Health First Aiders
  • Flexible working practices, life coaching, and dedicated wellbeing time

We work hard to create a culture where accessing mental health support is encouraged, normalised, and free from judgement.

No Mind Left Behind

Mental Health Awareness Month is a reminder of the importance of collective action. By supporting organisations like Bristol Mind and continuing to prioritise workplace wellbeing, we can help ensure that no mind gets left behind – this May and beyond.
