Head of Commercial
3 month initial contract – start ASAP
£495 per day
Inside IR35 (via umbrella)
1–2 days per week onsite / Hybrid working

Stepping in as Head of Commercial, you’ll take on a high‑impact senior leadership role where you’ll shape major commercial, planning and property decisions across the organisation. You’ll oversee a multidisciplinary legal team, lead on complex commercial work, and act as a trusted adviser on high‑profile, strategic matters. You’ll also deputise at senior level, influence corporate direction and ensure governance excellence. Your Role as Head of Commercial:
• Lead, negotiate and complete s106, s38, s278 and all planning/highways agreements
• Advise on all planning, highways, commercial and property matters
• Manage and supervise a team of contract, planning and property lawyers
• Represent at senior level, including planning committees and high‑level corporate meetings
• Drive corporate programmes, contributing positively at Legal Services’ management level and deputising for the Monitoring Officer
 
Your Previous Experience as Head of Commercial:
• Extensive expertise in commercial contracts, planning and property law
• Strong background managing and developing multidisciplinary legal teams
• Ability to operate at senior leadership level, influencing strategic decisions
• Track record delivering complex, high‑value commercial advice
• Significant experience working within a public sector or Local Authority environment
