Principal Social Worker – Children’s Social Care (Interim)
West Midlands (Hybrid – 3 days on site per week)
£500 per day (via FCSA Umbrella)
Inside IR35
Initial 3‑month interim contract

An exciting interim opportunity has arisen within a Local Authority in the West Midlands for an experienced Principal Social Worker to support Children’s Social Care in preparation for an upcoming Ofsted inspection. This role will play a pivotal part in strengthening practice quality, workforce development and assurance activity across the service.

Key Responsibilities As the Principal Social Worker for Children’s Social Care, you will be responsible for:

• Providing senior‑level leadership across social work practice, quality assurance and service improvement.
• Leading workforce development functions including Learning Academies, CPD, apprenticeships, Step Up to Social Work and teaching partnership activity.
• Developing and delivering training plans, professional development frameworks and practice improvement programmes.
• Driving a consistent, high-quality practice approach and contributing to cultural and service-wide change.
• Identifying workforce issues and advocating for staff through senior forums and regional PSW networks.
• Managing governance structures such as Workforce Boards and overseeing grant‑funded programmes to ensure compliance and effective delivery.
• Applying in‑depth knowledge of legislation, statutory responsibilities and restorative, child-centred practice frameworks to strengthen operational delivery.
