Reporting into the Strategic Director, you will be responsible for leading the strategic evolution and delivery of the Council’s Property and Assets portfolio.
This involves auditing landholdings and diverse property types to ensure maximum efficiency, driving revenue and capital growth, and aligning asset use with core housing and education objectives.
About the Director Property and Assets role:
- Strategic Service Leadership: Drive a portfolio of services aligned with corporate priorities, fostering a culture of innovation, high performance, and customer focus.
- Capital Programme Management: Act as the lead officer for the strategic direction and financial control of property portfolios, including the Schools Capital Programme and housing development initiatives.
- Operational Excellence: Support the Strategic Director in improving departmental efficiency through robust budget management, digital innovation, and governance.
- Cross-Council Initiatives: Lead major strategic programmes, such as One Public Estate and the integrated Council and Health Property Strategy.
- Asset Optimisation: Oversee the Council’s property and asset strategies, ensuring landholdings are utilised to maximize revenue, capital growth, and community needs.
- Facilities & Contract Management: Direct the facilities management of the retained property portfolio, focusing on contract performance and operational efficiency.
Your previous experience as a Director Property and Assets:
- Leadership & Credibility: Exceptional ability to inspire teams, set service direction, and act as a corporate role model.
- Strategic Thinking: Capacity to analyse complex evidence and develop entrepreneurial solutions to strategic problems.
- Resource Management: Skilled in securing external funding, generating income, and hitting efficiency/savings targets.
- Communication: Highly articulate and persuasive negotiator capable of building confidence across diverse audiences.
- Operational Excellence: Strong organisational skills to translate strategy into high-performing, risk-managed services.
- Emotional Intelligence: High level of self-awareness and a commitment to using feedback for personal improvement.
