This role is focused on the strategic leadership and operational management of repairs and maintenance services within a busy Social Housing asset management department.
Reporting directly to the Assistant Director, you will be responsible for ensuring the council’s housing stock is safe, secure, and maintained to an exceptional standard while driving a culture of high performance and resident satisfaction.
About the Head of Service role:
- Strategic Leadership: Lead and manage the repairs and maintenance operations, ensuring service delivery is efficient, cost-effective, and tailored to the needs of local residents.
- Operational Excellence: Implement robust maintenance programmes and strategies that prioritise quality and timely repairs to ensure the longevity of the council’s housing assets.
- Service functions: Day to day repairs, Complex repairs (including damp and mould), communal repairs, as well as Voids and secondary voids.
- Compliance & Safety: Enforce strict adherence to housing regulations, safety standards, and legislative changes to protect residents and ensure statutory compliance.
- Stakeholder Engagement: Foster strong relationships with contractors, staff, and resident associations, promoting a collaborative approach to service improvement.
- Financial Oversight: Full accountability for budgets up to £15m, ensuring procurement rules are followed and financial efficiencies are maximised.
Your previous experience as a Head of Service:
- Social Housing Leadership: A proven track record of managing large-scale repairs and maintenance services within a Social Housing or Local Authority environment is essential.
- Performance Driven: Expert knowledge in managing KPIs such as first-time fix rates, average completion times, and resident satisfaction metrics.
- Technical Knowledge: Deep understanding of current building regulations, health and safety legislation, and business continuity planning.
- People Management: Experience in inspiring large workforces, fostering professional development, and managing complex change programmes.
- Safeguarding & Ethics: Committed to safeguarding vulnerable adults and promoting equality, diversity, and inclusion in all service delivery.
