Location: London
Contract: Interim (minimum 6 months, with potential extension)
Day Rate: £700 per day (Inside IR35)

We are seeking an experienced and forward‑thinking leader to join a London local authority as their Interim Strategic Head of Asset Management. This is a high‑impact role providing strategic direction across asset management, capital programme governance, and procurement/contract oversight at a corporate level.

About the Strategic Head of Asset Management role:

• Lead the council’s Strategic Asset Management function, ensuring the effective utilisation and long‑term planning of the corporate estate.
• Oversee governance and assurance for the council‑wide Capital Programme, driving performance, reporting standards, and cross‑directorate alignment.
• Provide strategic leadership to the Procurement and Commercial function, ensuring compliance, value for money, and strong contract performance.
• Drive development and delivery of the Capital Strategy and Strategic Asset Management Plan in alignment with wider council priorities and the Medium‑Term Financial Strategy.
• Lead multi‑disciplinary teams, embedding a culture of collaboration, accountability and continuous improvement.
• Engage with senior officers, Members and external stakeholders through clear, accurate and timely reporting.

Your previous experience as a Strategic Head of Asset Management:

• Proven senior‑level experience in strategic asset management, capital programme oversight, or corporate property within a local authority environment.
• Strong leadership skills with a track record of managing multi‑disciplinary teams and driving service improvement.
• Demonstrable experience in programme governance, performance frameworks, and risk management.
• Knowledge of procurement, contracting, and commercial management within a public sector context.
• Experience using asset data, insights and reporting to drive investment decisions and strategic planning.
• Professional qualifications (e.g., MRICS, MCIOB, MAPM) are highly desirable.
• A collaborative, politically aware, and outcomes‑focused approach.
