Children’s Quality Assurance Lead
Initial 3-month interim contract

An exciting new interim opportunity has arisen within a Local Authority in the West Midlands for a Quality Assurance Lead across Children’s Social Care. You will report to the Head of Quality Assurance and the key focus of this role will be auditing and quality assuring the Children’s Social Care services in preparation for an upcoming Ofsted Inspection.
 
About your duties as the Quality Assurance Lead, Children’s Social Care: 

  • Lead Quality Assurance Activities – Oversee audits, evaluations, and reviews of social care practices to ensure high standards and compliance.
  • Develop and Implement QA Frameworks – Create and maintain robust quality assurance systems aligned with national standards and local priorities.
  • Analyse and Report on Practice Quality – Produce detailed reports identifying strengths, risks, and areas for improvement in service delivery.
  • Support Practice Improvement – Work with teams to embed learning from audits and reviews into everyday practice.
  • Facilitate Thematic Evaluations – Lead deep dives into specific areas of practice (e.g., safeguarding, care planning) to identify trends and systemic issues.
  • Champion Evidence-Based Practice – Promote the use of data, research, and feedback to inform decision-making and service development.
  • Collaborate Across Services – Work closely with social workers, managers, and external partners to ensure joined-up approaches to quality improvement.
  • Monitor Compliance and Performance – Track adherence to statutory duties, policies, and performance indicators.
  • Provide Expert Guidance – Offer advice and support to staff on quality standards, audit processes, and improvement strategies.
  • Drive a Culture of Learning and Innovation – Encourage reflective practice, continuous improvement, and openness to change across the workforce.

  
Your experience needed: 

  • Proven management experience, with the ability to lead, inspire and develop multi-disciplinary teams in a complex social care environment.
  • Extensive social work experience, underpinned by a strong understanding of statutory responsibilities, safeguarding practice and regulatory frameworks.
  • Exceptional analytical skills, with the ability to evaluate data, identify themes and trends, and translate insights into measurable service improvements.
  • Considerable experience in report writing, producing high-quality analytical and evaluative reports for a range of forums and senior leaders
  • Experience of managing Conference and Review Services, ensuring effective oversight, professional challenge and consistency of practice.
  • Strong engagement and communication skills, with the ability to gather staff feedback, interpret workforce insights and present findings confidently across a range of internal and external forums.
