Interim Director of Education
6 month contract to start ASAP

£700- 800 per day (DoE)
Inside IR35 (via umbrella)
Hybrid working (Minimum of 3 days per week onsite)

As Interim Director of Education, you will lead the strategic development of inclusive and aspirational education services across a dynamic North of England borough. This high-impact role will have a strong focus on SEND inspection readiness, helping to shape early years, SEND, and wider education outcomes, driving transformation in partnership with schools, colleges, and local stakeholders.
 
Key Responsibilities as Interim Director of Education:

  • Provide strategic leadership across education, early years, inclusion, and SEND services.
  • Drive integration and improvement across Family Hubs, ensuring a strong start for every child.
  • Build strong, collaborative relationships with education providers, health, and local partners.
  • Strong focus on Experience with focusing on SEND inspection readiness.
  • Represent the council regionally and nationally on education priorities and reforms.
  • Lead transformation programmes aligned with the council’s vision and values.

 
Your previous experience as Interim Director of Education: The ideal candidate will be a senior education leader with experience at Director or Assistant Director level, ideally within a local authority setting. You’ll bring:
 

  • Deep understanding of early years, education strategy, and inclusion policy.
  • Political acumen and experience advising elected members.
  • Experience with focusing on SEND inspection readiness.
  • Proven ability to lead change, transformation, and system-wide collaboration.
  • A strong commitment to improving outcomes for children, young people, and families.
