Team Manager – Youth Justice
3-month initial interim contract to start ASAP

South West
Up to £44 per hour Inside IR35 (via umbrella)

Hybrid working – 3 days per week on site

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Team Manager to support the Youth Justice Team for an initial 3 months in a fantastic Local Authority in the South West of England. Reporting to the Head of Service, you will be managing a team of 6 practitioners and working collaboratively with other Team Managers to allocate cases and to monitor and manage capacity.

This is a multi-agency team that works with children who are in, or at risk of coming into, the youth justice system. The team works with other agencies to safeguard children, prevent offending, manage and promote the safety of others , provide restorative justice and reduce re-reoffending.

The practitioners will be working collaboratively with children, their families and partner agencies to devise and deliver creative and innovative interventions that lead to positive outcomes for children, and increased safety for children and communities. This includes working with children in custodial settings as well as in the community, and in the pre court, Youth and Crown Courts.

Your Role as Team Manager – Youth Justice:

  • Coordination, development and planning of services to children and young people and their parents/carers delivered across the local authorities within the council to reduce the risk of offending and improve life chances
  • Manage and review contracts, grants and bids for commissioning services or funding in support of identified provision and work closely with partners and stakeholders to design, manage and deliver services
  • Research develop and recommend strategies for improved service delivery
  • Provide management to fellow professionals and support individual professional development through appropriate allocation of cases, coaching, mentoring etc
  • Prepare the service for regulatory inspection and ensure best practice
  • Ensure colleague engage with children and families so they are actively involved in the assessment of their needs, service delivery and review, gathering user feedback on the effectiveness of services delivered to support service improvement
  • Represent the Youth Offending Service at professional meetings
  • Manage the service area resources both in terms of people and budget to achieve statutory obligations and contractual requirements, ensuring service compliance with legislation, regulations and agreed national KPIs
  • Establish and maintain appropriate links between other professionals
  • Communicate effectively with colleagues and the public, both verbally and in writing through the appropriate use of case notes and record keeping

    Your previous experience as Team Manager – Youth Justice:

  • Registered with Social Work England
  • Must have recent experience at Team Manager level, with the skills to hit the ground running
  • Excellent knowledge and understanding of systems and processes to manage complex case work and budgets in order to provide focused social work activity
  • Flexibility; must be able to work on site when required, typically 3 days per week as agreed with your Manager
  • Experience of leading and managing teams to achieve high performance
  • Available references for most recent 5 year’s roles
  • Must hold a current DBS or be willing to undertake one
