I’m working with a Local Authority that’s looking for an Interim Building Control Surveyor to support their statutory Building Control service.
Reporting into the Principal Building Control Surveyor, you’ll play a key role in ensuring compliance with Building Regulations across a diverse range of projects—helping to deliver a safe, accessible, and sustainable built environment.
Your responsibilities will include plan checking, site inspections, enforcement activity, and supporting service improvement initiatives.
About the Building Control Surveyor role:

• Apply Building Regulations and associated legislation across residential and commercial projects
• Conduct site inspections to ensure compliance with Approved Documents and planning conditions
• Check building proposals and raise issues with non-compliant or unauthorised works • Maintain accurate inspection records and prepare reports for meetings and legal proceedings
• Liaise with internal departments, external partners, and the Building Safety Regulator • Respond to customer queries and support continuous improvement of service delivery
• Participate in promotional and educational activities related to building safety
• Share Duty Officer responsibilities and provide technical advice to stakeholders
• Contribute to budget management, cost recovery, and service performance targets

About you as a Building Control Surveyor:

• Registered with the Building Safety Regulator at Class 2
• Hold a Higher National Certificate (HNC) in Building Studies or equivalent
• Strong understanding of Building Regulations, construction methods, and enforcement procedures
• Ability to read and assess technical plans and carry out site inspections
• Experience working collaboratively in a team environment
• Awareness of health and safety practices on construction sites
