Inclusion Officer
 
Location: North East England
Hybrid: Minimum 3 days onsite
Rate: £300 per day
Contract Length: Minimum 6 months (likely extending to 2026)
Start Date: ASAP
 
A local authority in the North East of England is seeking an experienced Inclusion Officer to support schools in improving attendance, promoting inclusive education, and driving forward the inclusion and attendance agenda across all age groups. This is a key opportunity to make a real impact on the education system and wider community, ensuring every child has access to the support they need.
 
Key Responsibilities:

  • Improving Attendance – Work with schools to identify and address attendance concerns, providing strategic advice and solutions.
  • Whole School SEND Reviews & Audits – Support schools in evaluating their SEND provision and making improvements.
  • Strategic Inclusion Leadership – Present to SEND strategic boards on inclusion matters and help shape council-wide initiatives.
  • Supporting Exclusions Process – Only as a last resort, working to find alternative solutions wherever possible.
  • Collaboration & Challenge – Work with teachers, families, and school leaders, challenging when necessary to advocate for students.
     

Essential Skills & Experience:

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) – Essential.
  • SENCo Experience – A background in Special Educational Needs Coordination is highly desirable.
  • Strategic Understanding of Inclusion – Ability to lead on inclusion strategy and policy across both primary and secondary schools.
  • Strong Communication & Influence – Comfortable challenging schools and families to ensure positive outcomes for students.
  • Experience in Attendance & Exclusions – Skilled in working with schools to improve attendance rates and manage exclusions.
