Reporting directly to the Assistant Director of Property, you will play a strategic leadership role in shaping and delivering the council’s property agenda.

You’ll be responsible for driving the operational and strategic direction of the Corporate Property function, overseeing a high-performing team, and ensuring professional property advice is embedded across all major council projects.

About the Head of Property role:

• Lead the delivery of the Corporate Property function, setting clear direction and establishing robust procedures and systems across the service
• Drive key Corporate Property initiatives, offering strategic property input into major council programmes including regeneration, capital delivery, accommodation reviews, and service transformation
• Develop and implement a comprehensive property policy framework, aligning with the Council’s wider Asset Management Strategy
• Oversee the planning and execution of a Planned Preventative Maintenance programme, ensuring compliance, sustainability, and asset longevity
• Contribute to the future vision of the council’s operational estate, assessing long-term property needs and influencing the adoption of innovative occupation models
• Lead on the commissioning and management of external service providers where additional specialist expertise or capacity is required

 
Your previous experience as a Head of Property:

• Substantial experience in senior strategic property roles within a local authority context
• Proven ability to lead and deliver on large-scale property projects, including disposals, valuations, and estate strategy
• Strong understanding of asset management, capital planning, and property compliance
• Strong stakeholder engagement and communication skills, with the ability to influence and lead at a senior level
• You must have a strong track record of performance management
• RICS qualified (MRICS or FRICS)
