About the Role as Senior Principal Accountant Join a dynamic Central Finance team in a large metropolitan council, taking ownership of Capital and Treasury accounting.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Monitoring the Council’s capital programme alongside service accountants
  • Ensuring compliance with governance arrangements for capital and external funding
  • Providing technical advice on capital and treasury matters across service areas
  • Managing the Council’s Treasury function, including cash flow, borrowing, and investments
  • Producing statutory documents: Capital Strategy, Treasury Management Policy, Investment Strategy, Minimum Revenue Policy, and statutory returns
  • Leading financial accounting for Capital, Treasury, and Leasing transactions

About the role as Senior Principal Accountant

  • Qualified accountant with strong interpersonal and influencing skills (e.g. CIPFA, ACCA, CIMA) 
  • In-depth knowledge of Local Government Capital and Treasury Accounting regulations
  • Proven ability to meet strict deadlines and maintain high professional standards
  • Experience working within a large public sector finance environment
